Sotensko pri Šmarju is a settlement in the Šmarje pri Jelšah municipality in eastern Slovenia. It lies in the hills to the north of Šmarje. The area is part of the historical Lower Styria region. The municipality is now included in the Savinja statistical region.[2]
The local church is dedicated to Saint Nicholas and belongs to the Šmarje pri Jelšah parish. It was built in the third quarter of the 18th century on the site of an earlier building.[3]
